Online Therapy & Counselling Kelowna, BC & Canada

Therapy does not have to happen in an office. Whether you live outside Kelowna, work from home, travel for work, have a busy schedule, or simply feel more comfortable talking to a therapist from your own space, online therapy can make accessing support easier.

At Relate & Restore, our counsellors offer secure virtual counselling across British Columbia and, where permitted by professional jurisdictional requirements, Canada.

Online therapy can provide the same thoughtful, personalized support you would receive in person, without the commute or added barriers of getting to an office. You can connect with a therapist from home, your office, or another private space where you feel comfortable.

Whether you are looking for support with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, life transitions, parenting, or something that is simply feeling difficult right now, we can help you find the right therapist and approach for your needs.

Feel Connected, Even From a Distance

Sometimes life makes it difficult to access therapy in person. You may live in a remote area, work away from home, have a demanding schedule, find it difficult to leave the house, or simply feel more comfortable talking from a familiar environment. Whatever has brought you here, you deserve to have someone beside you.

Online counselling provides a safe and convenient way to connect with your therapist and feel supported wherever you are. From anxiety and depression to relationship concerns, trauma, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm, our counsellors can provide a space to slow things down, make sense of what you are experiencing, and begin moving toward something different.

Connection and support, wherever you are.

What Can Online Therapy Help With?

Online therapy can be helpful for many of the same concerns that bring people to in-person counselling. Depending on your needs and the therapist you work with, online counselling may support you with:

  • Anxiety, worry, and panic
  • Depression and low mood
  • Stress and emotional overwhelm
  • Trauma and difficult life experiences
  • Relationship and couples concerns
  • Communication and conflict
  • Parenting and family challenges
  • Life transitions and major changes
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Emotional regulation
  • Boundaries and interpersonal relationships
  • Teen and youth concerns
  • Work stress and burnout
  • Personal growth and self-understanding

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-informed approaches, which may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed approaches, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and other therapeutic approaches depending on your therapist and goals.

Who Can Online Therapy Support?

Online therapy can be helpful at many different stages of life and for many different reasons. You do not need to have a diagnosis or know exactly what is wrong to reach out. We support people navigating:

  • Anxiety, depression, stress, and emotional overwhelm
  • Relationships, couples, family conflict, and separation
  • Pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood
  • Parenting and family changes
  • Trauma, grief, and difficult life experiences
  • First responders, healthcare workers, and other helping professionals
  • Remote workers, professionals, and people managing work-related stress or burnout
  • Life transitions, major changes, and uncertainty
  • Self-esteem, identity, and personal growth
  • Teens and young adults navigating school, relationships, and growing independence
  • Chronic stress, emotional regulation, and feeling stuck
  • Boundaries, communication, and interpersonal relationships

Sometimes you know exactly what you need help with and sometimes you just know that something does not feel right and you need support figuring this out.

Our Approach to Online Counselling

Online therapy is not a different kind of therapy. It is simply a different way of connecting with your therapist. Your counsellor will take the time to understand what is bringing you to therapy, what you hope will change, and what kind of support will be most helpful.

Depending on your needs and therapist, online counselling may incorporate approaches such as:

Online therapy is not a different kind of therapy. It is simply a different way of connecting with your therapist. Your counsellor will take the time to understand what is bringing you to therapy, what you hope will change, and what kind of support will be most helpful.

Depending on your needs and therapist, online counselling may incorporate approaches such as:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT can help you understand the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviours and develop more helpful ways of responding to difficult situations.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT-informed strategies can support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Trauma-Informed Therapy

Trauma-informed counselling recognizes the impact difficult experiences can have on the nervous system, relationships, emotions, and sense of safety.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT can help individuals and couples understand emotional patterns and create greater security and connection in their relationships.

Your therapist will work with you to determine which approach or combination of approaches best fits your needs.

What Online Counselling Actually Looks Like

Online counselling is designed to be simple, secure, and accessible. Your sessions take place through a secure video platform, allowing you to meet with your therapist using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Before Your Session

Choose a space where you feel comfortable and where you can speak privately without interruptions.

During Your Session

You will meet with your counsellor by secure video. Your therapist will guide the session in much the same way they would if you were sitting together in the counselling office.

After Your Session

Depending on your needs, your therapist may provide additional resources, exercises, worksheets, or other recommendations to support the work between sessions.

The goal is not simply to provide a video call. It is to create a meaningful therapeutic relationship and a space where you can feel safe enough to be honest, understood, and supported.

Find the Right Therapist for You

Finding the right therapist matters.

Our team includes Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC), Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC), and Registered Social Workers (RSW), each with their own areas of experience, therapeutic approaches, and personality.

Rather than trying to find the “best online therapy” in the abstract, we believe the best therapist is the one who feels like the right fit for you. Browse our team to learn more about each counsellor, explore their specialties, and see who is currently accepting new clients.

If you are not sure where to start, book a complimentary 15-minute consultation and we can help you find a therapist who may be a good match.

Common Questions

For many people, online therapy can be an effective way to access counselling. The most important factors are often the quality of the therapeutic relationship, the fit between you and your therapist, and the type of support you are receiving. Your therapist can help determine whether online counselling is appropriate for your particular needs.

Online therapy can be a great fit if you prefer the comfort of home, have a busy or irregular schedule, travel for work, have caregiving responsibilities, live in a remote area, or simply find online sessions more accessible. It can also make it easier to connect with a therapist who specializes in what you need.

Online counselling takes place through secure video. You can join your appointment using a computer, tablet, or smartphone from a private location. From here, your therapist will guide the session just as they would during an in-person appointment.

Many extended health plans provide coverage for eligible counselling professionals, including some RCCs, RSWs, and CCCs. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider before booking.

No, you can book counselling directly without a physician referral. However, some insurance plans may have specific requirements, so it is worth checking your benefits before booking.

Yes. It is important to have a private, quiet space where you can speak openly without being overheard or interrupted. Using headphones can also provide an additional layer of privacy.

That is okay. Some people prefer meeting in person while others find that online counselling actually makes therapy feel more comfortable and accessible. If you are unsure, you can discuss your preferences during your consultation and we can help you determine what might work best.
