Couples Counselling - For the Relationship You Want to Have

Relationships don't break all at once. The distance grows slowly — through unresolved conflict, unspoken needs, and the quiet feeling that something between you has shifted. If that sounds familiar, we can help.

Continued conflict, misunderstanding, and mistrust can lead to stress, strain, and the eventual breakdown of our most valued connections. Feelings of frustration, anger, and hopelessness can start to feel like the norm but they don’t have to be.

Expressing what you need and allowing yourself to truly trust someone again can feel uncomfortable and sometimes even frightening. That is where relationship counselling in Kelowna and Vernon can help you.  We create safe spaces where you can both feel heard, understood, and supported as you reconnect with one another.

Why Couples Seek Marriage Counselling in Kelowna

  • The same arguments, over and over and nothing ever really gets resolved.
  • Feeling more like roommates than partners.
  • Trust has been broken (through infidelity, dishonesty, or repeated let-downs).
  • One of you shuts down, the other escalates and neither feels heard.
  • Intimacy and affection that has slowly faded.
  • Parenting, life transitions, or major stress pulling you in different directions.
  • Not sure if you want to stay but you are not ready to give up either.
  • Navigating separation or divorce and needing support to move forward — separately or together.
  • Pre-marital counselling helps couples build a strong foundation and prepare for life’s inevitable challenges together.

Our Approach to Marriage & Couples Counselling

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT is one of the most well-researched approaches to couples counselling in the world. It gets underneath the argument to what is actually happening emotionally for both of you by helping you understand why you keep triggering each other and how to break that cycle for good.

The Gottman Method

Based on decades of research into what makes relationships work and what quietly erodes them. The Gottman Method gives couples practical, specific tools for conflict, communication, and rebuilding friendship. It is less about talking about your feelings and more about changing the patterns that are causing the problem.

What You'll Actually Work On in Sessions

  • Breaking negative cycles
  • Conflict de-escalation
  • Repair conversations
  • Rebuilding trust
  • Emotional regulation
  • Healthy boundaries
  • Deepening intimacy
  • Communication skills
  • Co-parenting dynamics
  • Accountability without blame

Common Questions

Yes. Individual counselling for relationship issues is just as valuable. Working on your own patterns, communication, and emotional responses can create real change even when only one partner is in the room. Sometimes one person starting is enough to shift the relational dynamic.”

No. Our therapists are there to understand both of you and not to judge or assign blame. The goal is to help you both understand each other better and work out what you actually want for your relationship.

We work with couples at all stages including those who are not sure whether they want to stay together. Discernment counselling is specifically for couples weighing that decision. Whatever you are facing, showing up is the hardest part.

Every relationship is different. Some couples come for a few sessions to improve communication and address a specific concern, while others choose deeper work to rebuild trust, heal old hurts, or shift long-standing patterns. After your first session, we will better understand what you are hoping to create together and develop a plan that fits your needs.
