About Justin
Ever since he was a child, Justin has felt a strong connection to other people and this connection has guided him in his journey to where he is today. He has always loved listening to the stories of others and paying attention to the little details that help people access their true self. These skills were paramount on his journey to becoming a counsellor.
He has immense passion for helping individuals, couples, and their families overcome challenges to build strengths in all facets of life. Supporting individuals facing complex issues such as anxiety, identity, body image, disordered eating, depression, life transitions, family conflict, and relationship conflicts. He enjoys helping others develop a grounded sense of self and build resilience to be able to overcome any adversity.
He believes in a collaborative approach to therapy, where clients are viewed as experts in their own lives. Throughout the therapeutic journey, he aims to guide you through your past experiences and traumas while also empowering you with the skills to process them. Justin’s main goal is to help you become a more authentic and resilient version of you.
He draws from various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care and Internal Family Systems (IFS), always tailoring his approach to meet the unique needs of each client. To do so, he prioritizes keeping up to date with the latest developments in research on each of these practices.
Growing up in Vancouver and becoming a Registered Social Worker here in the Okanagan at UBC, Justin was able to gain experience working with a variety of populations with various barriers and diverse abilities. As a Chinese-Canadian, he has also experienced the impact of racial identity, and as a result, offers a unique blend of cultural sensitivity and clinical expertise to his practice. He is passionate about creating a safe and affirming space where clients can explore their identities, navigate systemic barriers and cultivate resilience.
He is registered as a Social Worker with the British Columbia College of Social Workers, staying actively engaged in ongoing education and training to ensure that his practice remains informed by the latest research and best practices in the field.
